The playing surface. The infrastructure beneath it.

OSAN / Overview
The playing surface. The infrastructure beneath it.
In 2022, OSAN undertook the complete renewal of Samara Arena’s football pitch and its underlying infrastructure. The OSAN budget for the renewal scope is USD 41 million.
The appointment covers the pitch as a connected surface-and-infrastructure task. Its boundaries are the football field and the works beneath it, rather than the original construction of the stadium or renewal of all stadium areas.
Budget refers to the work attributed to OSAN and is separate from the overall project investment.
Scope & responsibility
Our scope
ENGINEERING IN FOCUS
The pitch, from below.
Playing geometry
The pitch is read as one continuous playing area. Its perimeter, levels and relationship with surrounding stadium space establish the geometric context for renewal. The surface and its edges belong to the same spatial task.

Surface and supporting layers
A renewed playing surface is supported by construction below it. The relationship between the visible area and the underlying layers is central to the appointment. The conceptual model shows that relationship without prescribing the project’s specific technical system.
Renewal interfaces
The boundary between the playing area, underlying work and adjoining stadium zones defines the renewal task. Coordinating these interfaces keeps the scope focused on the football pitch and the infrastructure associated with it.
The project in context
At a glance
Samara Arena was commissioned in April 2018 for the FIFA World Cup. Its approximately 45,000-seat venue and domed roof form the setting for the later pitch-renewal assignment. The archive photograph shown here predates OSAN’s 2022 work.
